FUN BUNCH HALL OF FAME
![]() | Ian "gentle giant" McCord 1st Base 1995-2005 10 seasons | Ian was an imposing figure at first base. A giant of a man, his looming presence belied his amiable personality. Soft spoken and gentle, he preferred to let his bat do the talking during his decade on the fun bunch. He used his remarkable wingspan to full advantage as he snagged wayward balls for bonus outs that would leave any other player scrambling in the dirt. Ian met Nancy "knock 'em in" Harris his first season on the team and the two soon became the first husband-and-wife tandem in team history. Sadly, a bad back forced Ian into early retirement, but he continued to come out and cheer on his wife and the rest of the team for years to come. |
![]() | Rowena "scoresheet" Sams catcher 1985-2017 32 seasons | Rowena holds the records as the longest-serving member of the Fun Bunch (and the only team member to have attended every pre-season training camp!). A stalwart at catcher, Rowena never backed down from a play at the plate -- no matter how hard the ball was coming in. Her exemplary skills keeping score and running the batting order will be sorely misssed. |
![]() | Patti "gazoo" Anderson rover ????-2015 ?? seasons | Ageless Patti Anderson is a stalwart and one of the longest serving members of the fun bunch. Known for her prowess on the marathoning circuit, patti puts her speed to good use on the ball diamond, effortlessly gliding around the bases. A little timid in the outfield Patti has been known to snag the odd flyball much to the delight of her teammates. Having had a few close calls with plays at first base, Patti now sports her "gazoo" like batting helmet earning her her affectionate nickname. |
![]() | Nancy "knock 'em in" Harris 2nd base 1???-2016 ?? seasons | With the number of female fun bunch players starting to dwindle this season, Nancy was conscripted out of retirement to help bolster the fun bunch's depleted ranks. After an impressive showing at last year's tournament, Nancy clearly reminded everyone of what she brings to the table - a strong bat and solid fielding. Her fun bunch teammates have enthusiastically embraced Nancy's return who shows no sign of rust after sitting out the last few seasons. Welcome back Nancy! |
![]() | Cliff "home run" Harris outfield 1992-2010 19 seasons 1999 league Championship 2006 B championship | Forced to retire prematurely--a victim of frequent hamstring injuries--Cliff was a fixture for 19 seasons in the outfield. Cliff platooned with teammate Steve Saunders, forming the best 1-2 pitching combination in the league, consistently serving up juicy tosses with "home run" written all over them. A career .400 hitter, Cliff could always be counted on to get on base, especially in clutch situations. |
![]() | Maggie "magpie" McGovern rover 1985-2007 22 seasons 1999 League Championship 2006 B championship | One of the early members of the original Fun Bunch team, Maggie played for 22 fun-filled seasons. She had the uncanny ability to get on base at crucial times, applying a deft combination of spin and just the right amount of physics to keep infielders from handling her hits. Maggie--a consumate team player--would always unselfishly defer the play when she felt another fielder might be able to get the out. A crowd favorite, fans would erupt in excitement whenever Maggie would snag a wayward fly ball |
![]() | Betsy "double play" Moore 2nd base 1983-2006 24 seasons Team Captain 1999 League Championship 2006 B championship | One of the original members of the Fun Bunch team, Betsy roamed the diamond for an amazing 24 seasons until injuries related to her passion for running took their toll. Sharing her infectious laugh and enthusiasm for the game, Betsy was very popular with her Fun Bunch teammates. Paired with short-stop partner Steve Saunders, they formed a formidable infield tandem routinely turning double-plays much to the chagrin of their opponents. Betsy was also a threat with the bat and on the base path as she put her running experience to good use legging out many extra base hits. |
![]() | Soren "scoop" Sorensen outfield, 1st base 1983-2005 23 seasons Team Captain 1999 League Championship | A founding member of the Fun Bunch team and captain for most of his 23 seasons, Soren set the standard for Fun Bunch players that has yet to be broken. Competitive, yet with a relaxed demeanour, Soren personified the Fun Bunch mantra. Soren originally played outfield but really rose to prominence as the team's shut-down first baseman extraordinaire. No ball was too hard, too fast or too offline for "scoop" to handle. At the plate, Soren was a consistent extra-base hitter who lead by example when the team needed a big hit. |
