FUN BUNCH TAME REBELS

Expensive win as "daredevel" forced to leave game with injury

OTTAWA-Facing the always feisty rebels, the Fun Bunch knew they had their work cut out for them. After a 2-1 Saturday, they had to win their remaining two games to have a shot at the finals. With Rachelle "the rocket" Dalpe out of the tournament celebrating her belated birthday, the Fun Bunch moved one of their men to 2nd base and went with only three guys in the outfield in an act of desperation. With most of the team nursing serious injuries, and Richard "wild thing" Bujold still legally intoxicated from the team party the night before, this clearly wasn't going to be a walk in the park. But doing what they do best the Fun Bunch dug deep and played a brilliant game with the bash brothers (Scott "don't call me boom boom" and Steve "downtown" Saunders) both smashing homeruns to get the ball rolling. Equally as impressive was a double by Rowena "scoresheet" Sams who came up with a clutch hit and then scampered to second in the ensuing confusion after an over throw at first before eventually coming in to score a key run. In the late innings, on a close play at second, Kathie "daredevil" Adare got her thumb jammed by the approaching rebel player. In serious agony she was forced to leave the game and the Fun Bunch played out the final two innings without a 3rd baseman. The rebels foolishly wasted their three home runs and in fact ended up with an out in the top of the ninth when their leadoff hitter put one over the fence. With one down and up by a handful of runs the Fun Bunch closed out the rebels for the win and to improve their record to 3-1. After the game it was determined that "daredevil" had indeed dislocated her thumb and would be out for the remainder of the tournament.
