FUN BUNCH START TOURNAMENT ON A SOUR NOTE

Team comes up with only six runs in lopsided loss to A's

OTTAWA-Here we go again. In an eerie case of deja-vu, the Fun Bunch battled white knuckles and butterflies to turn in a stone-cold performance to open the tournament and lose 13-6 to the Athletics. The Fun Bunch were never able to find their groove and had trouble getting runners on base. In fact, five of the six runs scored came on home runs: Steve "downtown" Saunders (2), Scott "don't call me boom boom" Saunders (2) and Richard "wild thing" Bujold (an ill-timed solo shot). Other highlights are few and far between but a few that bear mentioning: Alison "bulldozer" Hale broke out of her slump in her last at bat and got aboard as did Rowena "scoresheet" Sams, hopefully kick starting the offense for the next game. Also Rachelle "the rocket" Dalpe and Kathie "daredevil" Adare both scored a run (the only two scored by the women). With a long bench of seven guys in the lineup and woeful hitting as a team, each man got only two at bats and never really got a chance to shake the rust off as evidenced by the fact that three of the men did not get a hit in the game. Now sitting clearly behind the eight ball, the team will have to dig deep and win all their remaining games to have even a modicum of a chance to advance to the finals.
